When I pull on chamois shorts, I don’t expect to enjoy them so much as be grateful that they work, but I really like the feel of the Bellas as well as how they work as everyday bike shorts. They are listed as a high-compression short on Terry’s website, but they have a silky, buttery feel that isn’t characteristic of compressive shorts, in my experience. They're comfortable enough to wear as a commuter chamois but they perform well enough to be a training short. I have the 8.5” inseam length short, which I think of as a standard length. After I pull them on, I forget about them, which is as it should be.They are a great “everyday” padded short for mtb, gravel, or road, and I would use them for rides up to 3-4 hours. (Also, they're not bibs, so bathroom breaks are easy.) Anything longer than 4 hours, and I prefer the Bella Prima Shorts (also by Terry), but I wish they were this silky. The pad in the Bellas (Flex Air) is really similar to the Bella Primas in terms of thickness. The only difference that I can see is that the Flex Air is slightly less breathable than the Flex Air Carbon pad, and the description indicates that they are made of different material. In practice, they don’t feel extremely different, both feel soft and supportive.I wear these shorts both on their own (I like the black with black seams) with a jersey and also under baggy mtb shorts for trail riding. The 8.5” legs are long enough to overlap well with my knee pads. The leg grippers on the Bellas are a strong thin ribbon of silicone, and they really grip. After pulling the shorts on, I usually have to adjust the gripper to the place I want it, but then it works well. It does not give me the dreaded “sausage leg.” (I do prefer the wider leg grippers on the Bella Primas more). These shorts fit true to size if you follow the Terry sizing chart. I’m at the upper end of a size small, and I am happy with the small.
